With the future of the planet at stake, the need for sustainable solutions has never been clearer than now. Climate change is intensifying, making the transformation of industrial segments a global priority.

In 2025, Brazil will host the COP30, a time when leaders from around the world will meet to discuss the energy transition and commitments to reduce pollutant gas emissions.

However, while industries receive central attention in these debates, the construction industry – one of the main energy-consuming segments and responsible for a significant environmental footprint – still does not occupy the due prominence in the discussions.

In a scenario where time is of the essence, the modernization of the sector falls short of the urgency required by the climate crisis. Both new and existing buildings need to be integrated into efforts to achieve global sustainability goals, in addition to promoting the strengthening of more resilient cities.

According to UN (United Nations), in 2050, around 68% of the world's population will live in urban areas which, despite representing only 3% of the Earth's surface, consume 78% of the energy.

This reveals great potential for reducing consumption and emissions. Connected structures, by definition, use advanced technologies to improve operational and environmental efficiency. In Brazil, with its increasing verticalization, this change could be crucial to achieving sustainability goals.

To renew the construction sector, it is essential to adopt digitalization and connectivity as allies. Together, they ensure the automated use of resources and enable integration with other infrastructures, such as electrical networks. With the help of IoT (Internet of Things) and interconnected tools, properties reach a new level of performance.

One example is connected sensors that adjust temperature and lighting according to the presence of occupants, resulting in a significant reduction in waste and enabling more efficient management.

In regions where climate variation is pronounced and extreme events such as storms and heat waves are increasingly frequent, these technologies become essential. By integrating systems with renewable sources, like solar, it is possible to create more comfortable environments and ensure that the production generated is stored and used appropriately.

Understand the differences between renewable and non-renewable energy

These devices are configured to respond quickly to adjust ventilation and improve indoor air quality, as well as employ dynamic shading and activate generators, providing continuous supply during periods of high demand.

Implementing smart building solutions involves initial expenses, but over time, the benefits outweigh the costs, resulting in cost control, greater competitiveness in the market and increased property value. At the same time, it contributes to the more strategic use of urban resources.

The advantages, however, go beyond economics. As more projects become innovative, the demand for qualified professionals grows, boosting job creation and business development in the real estate and infrastructure sectors.

With the adoption of disruptive alternatives, the projects of the future will transform the landscape and become fundamental pillars in the construction of more sustainable cities and prepared for the enormous challenges of the coming decades.
