In the first five months of this year, the entry of consumers into the Free Energy Market sured the result of 2023. Until May, 8.936 units ed this modality, representing an increase in 21% in relation to the volume recorded throughout last year.
This growth is a consequence of the flexibility in the criteria for access to the free environment. Of this year's total migrations, 78% correspond to small and medium-sized companies, benefiting from the new legislation that came into force in January, according to CCEE (Electric Energy Trading Chamber).
Currently, Mercado Livre represents 37% of national energy consumption, and the expectation is that this percentage increase in the coming months.
According to ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency), about 23,7 thousand consumers informed distributors of their intention to migrate to the free environment in 2024.
“The states of the South and Southeast continue to lead the migration rankings, a scenario that has continued over the months. In May, São Paulo (626), Rio Grande do Sul (218) and Rio de Janeiro (169) stood out. Furthermore, the significant increases in states in the Northeast, North and Central-West indicate that Trading companies are eyeing opportunities in other regions, such as Bahia, Pará, Pernambuco, Ceará, Goiás and Mato Grosso”, informed CCEE in a press release.
Among the sectors monitored by CCEE, the migrations of companies in the services, commerce, various manufactured goods, food and sanitation.
CCEE also stated that it is working to simplify the migration process to Mercado Livre. The entity sent a proposal to ANEEL to facilitate the registration of new consumers and reduce the requirements for sending energy measurement data, “allowing migration without the need to invest in new equipment”.
Furthermore, CCEE proposed the modernization of the sector's data exchange model, with the use of API (Application Programming Interface), which will allow greater automation and agility in services.
