Brazil will host the 1st International Meeting of Solar-Powered Cinemas in February. The event brings together projects from Chile, the United States, the Netherlands, Croatia, Western Sahara, Nepal, Australia and Brazil.
The event features sessions of short films and solar cinema films, followed by debates on movies, environment and sustainability. ission is free and open to the public.
São Paulo (SP) will host the event on February 6, from 19pm to 21pm; in Caraúbas (RN), the screenings will take place on February 8, from 18pm to 20:30pm; in São Miguel do Gostoso (RN), the sessions will take place on February 9, from 18pm to 20:30pm.

In Brazil, the Cinesolar has already held 2730 sessions with 290 films and 780 film workshops for more than 397 people from 890 cities in 23 states and the Federal District. The project offsets 55 tons of CO2e through tree planting and carbon credit certification.
The films shown always address issues related to sustainability, focusing on three axes: social, economic and environmental. In addition, there are organic music and eco-graffiti workshops for children and teenagers.
Cynthia Alario, creator of the Cinesolar project in Brazil, and the three executive directors of Solar World Cinema, the Dutch Maureen Prins, founder, Maartje Piersma and Stien Meesters, will be at the events.
The meeting in São Paulo will be moderated by actor, presenter and activist Sérgio Marone. In Rio Grande do Norte, the Secretary of State for Culture, Mary Land Brito, will participate in both debates.
Maureen Prins says that, “with COP 30 scheduled to take place in Brazil this year, we decided that the country would be the ideal location for the first meeting.”
Cynthia Alario highlights, “we decided to do it here in the country, in the year of COP 30, because it is essential to encourage discussion in the arts about the impact of climate change on the world. Those of us who work with culture and the environment can contribute to the involvement of civil society and the state in projects and actions that impact climate change and the entire environmental issue that is the major agenda of humanity today.”
