In celebration of the week of World Energy Day, Litro de Luz and Copa Energia announced a new edition of the social impact project aimed at promoting access to sustainable lighting in Brazilian communities without access to the electricity grid.

This time, the initiative will take place between June 11th and 14th, on Marajó Island (PA), focusing on two quilombola communities: Tartarugueiro and Santana. The action involves the collective assembly of around 100 solar posts, in partnership with local residents.

The project aims to provide improvements in the nightlife conditions of the families served, promoting safety, autonomy and well-being.

“This action is an example of how companies can act in a concrete way, side by side with those who know the territory and share our objective of expanding access to quality energy in Brazil”, said Lavinia Hollanda, Director of Sustainability, Communication and Institutional Relations at Energy Cup

This is the fourth t initiative carried out by the companies in energy-deprived communities. “We remain firm in our commitment to bringing light, dignity and protagonism to populations historically excluded from access to energy,” said Rodrigo Eidy, president of Liter of Light.

Fourth edition of the partnership

The partnership between Copa Energia and Litro de Luz began in 2023, with the implementation of a lighting action in the Jardim da Glória community, in São Paulo (SP).

In 2024, two new actions were promoted: one in peripheral urban territory and another in rural region, expanding the scope of the project.

Operating in more than 15 countries, Litro de Luz has more than 200 volunteers distributed across the five regions of Brazil, aiming to provide lighting to people without access to electricity through solar energy.

Litro de Luz works with its own social development methodology that seeks to mobilize volunteers, map communities, understand needs and train residents to install, replicate and maintain its technologies.

In this process, leaders are identified in their communities, trained as ambassadors and begin to represent the NGO locally.

Throughout its history, the organization has directly impacted around 30 people in rural, urban, indigenous, riverside and quilombola areas across the country.

Sustainable lighting technologies from Litro de Luz

Litro de Luz develops three proprietary technologies for sustainable lighting solutions: solar lamps, solar posts and indoor lighting.

The solar lantern has a PVC structure, with a PET bottle, a battery, LED lamps and an adequate size that allows mobility during nighttime activities, inside and outside the community's homes and a solar for charging the battery.

Solar posts are assembled with lithium batteries and positioned in strategic public locations with high levels of foot traffic in communities.

Both use solar s for charging and, in the case of the posts, they remain lit all night, with automatic daytime charging. The internal lighting solution consists of an LED lamp, solar , battery and control.

The methodology used means that the assembly process is carried out through engagement with the communities, by the residents themselves.

Local ambassadors are also trained in the communities so that with the NGO is permanent and the solutions receive the necessary attention when used.

In addition to maintenance, when batteries lose capacity and usability, they are returned for recycling and Litro de Luz immediately replaces them.

Copa Energia is a Brazilian company with 70 years of experience in the LPG bottling and distribution sector, representing a 24,4% share of the national market.

Through its traditional brands, Copagaz and Liquigás, the company provides energy to 30 million customers. In recent years, the company has focused on energy transition projects.
