O Ceitec (National Center for Advanced Electronic Technology), a national public company and semiconductor producer, announced that it will receive an investment of R$220 million from MCTI (Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation).
The investment will be applied to adapting Ceitec's industrial platform for the large-scale production of SiC (Silicon Carbide) semiconductors, used in power devices; in technology transfer; and in the internalization of new production processes.
Semiconductors will have strategic applications, such as in solar energy conversion systems and in control modules for electric vehicles, contributing to the energy transition and sustainability.
The contribution of R$220 million will be divided into three years: R$96,5 million in 2024; R$101,5 million in 2025; and R$22,36 million in 2026. The resources are from FNDCT (National Fund for Scientific and Technological Development).
The announcement was made at the beginning of the month by Luciana Santos, Minister of MCTI, in Porto Alegre (RS), during the ceremony that took place in the company's auditorium.
The minister stated that “we have no doubt that Ceitec has the conditions to develop and manufacture devices that meet global challenges, such as the energy transition, providing inputs for photovoltaic s, electric and hybrid vehicles. There are even orders for chips already placed,” she said.
Celso Pansera, president of Finep, recalled that Ceitec has faced serious challenges in recent years, such as the liquidation process that was reversed from 2023 onwards.
“Strategic investments take time to be successful. The energy transition requires a lot of semiconductors, and Ceitec is able to occupy this market,” he highlighted.
