The Minister of Mines and Energy, Alexandre Silveira, made official his dissatisfaction with the quality of the service provided by Enel SP and demanded measures from the company. ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency).

This Monday (1st), the ministry's page features a photo taken at the moment Silveira signs the document that was delivered to the general director of the ANEEL, Sandoval Feitosa, in a clear symbolic attitude.

According to the document, the MME asks that Enel SP be “rigorously evaluated” and, if the company is found to be incapable of providing the service, “sanctions must be imposed, possibly including the declaration of expiry” of the concession.

The ministry highlights that the dissatisfaction of the population served by Enel SP is “notorious”, especially in the last six months, in which several interruptions in energy supply were recorded in the country's largest city.

“The blackouts in the Enel SP concession area have led to widespread dissatisfaction among electricity consumers, both due to the frequency and duration of these events, causing a major impact on people's lives and the financial dimension resulting from interruptions in productive and commercial activities . The political class, representing the interests of the population, has also demonstrated and demanded timely action by the Public Power”, says an excerpt from the letter.

According to the ministry, there are several findings that highlight Enel's poor performance in providing the service, such as the average time taken to restore energy supply and a considerable increase in the number of interruptions.

“We are g this letter considering the many pieces of evidence we have today, considering Enel’s repeated non-compliance with the issues raised. There are several failures in the provision of electricity services, which have demonstrated an inability to provide quality services to the population. Therefore, during the investigation, all possibilities of punishing the company must be considered”, declared minister Alexandre Silveira in a press release.

In February, the ANEEL applied a fine of R$165 million to Enel SP for the service provided by the concessionaire after the power outage on November 3, 2023, which left thousands of consumers without power in São Paulo.
