O MME (Ministry of Mines and Energy) published, this Thursday (19), in DOU (Official Gazette of the Union), the new Operational Manual for the Light for All Program. The document's main purpose is to establish premises and guidelines to guide the operationalization and implementation processes of the program – which aims to guarantee the eradication of energy poverty and social and economic development.

With the relaunch of Luz para Todos, in August 2023, and the various innovations and improvements presented in this new stage, there was the need to update the manual redefining the specific rules that establish, among other issues, the governance structure of the initiative, as well as the technical and financial criteria, procedures and priorities to serve the population that does not yet have access to electricity in the country.

"The electricity supply is essential for social and economic development of families living in rural areas and remote regions of Brazil. It is an essential service and a fundamental right of citizens, as it aims to meet their basic needs. The resumption of the program is guaranteeing a dignified life and citizenship to millions of Brazilians,” said the Minister Alexandre Silveira.

Light for All

Created in 2003, the program is an initiative of the Federal Government, through the MME. Since its launch, more than 3,7 million families were served with access to the public electricity distribution service, which represents more than 17,5 million people using this public service.

According to the Ministry, in this new step, initiative will benefit around 500 thousand families, and brings the challenge of building public policies for universalizing access to and use of electricity that are even fairer and more inclusive, guaranteeing more opportunities and improvements in the quality of life of the entire population served by the Program.
