The Minister of Mines and Energy, Alexandre Silveira, announced this Thursday (10) that the text of the proposal to reform the electricity sector will be sent to the Civil House later this month.

The information was given during the second day of the Brazilian Energy Leaders Forum 2025, which brings together authorities and representatives of the main companies and institutions in the national energy sector in Rio de Janeiro.

According to Silveira, the reform priorities include expanding the social tariff, modernizing distribution contracts and implementing new auctions to secure power and storage capacity.

The minister also highlighted the importance of efficient energy planning, with a focus on eliminating emergency contracts.

Among the measures mentioned are also the reduction of tariffs to contain inflation, the settlement of debts related to Covid and water shortages, in addition to the end of legal disputes that compromise the country's strategic interests.

Another highlight of the speech was the planned investment of R$60 billion in energy transmission, with the expectation of generating more than 100 thousand jobs.

The country's complete integration into the SIN (National Interconnected System) was also emphasized, a measure that should be completed this year and will contribute to reducing the use of diesel in the Amazon.
