Temperature continues to interfere with electricity demand, but industry performance also contributed to the result

National electricity consumption totaled 71.200 MWmed (average megawatts) in January, ing growth of 6,6% compared to the same period in 2023, according to preliminary data from CCEE (Electricity Trading Chamber).

The temperature continues to interfere with the electricity demand, however the industry's performance also contributed to the result.

No free market, which encomes large companies and industries, the consumption reached 25.742 MWmed, representing an increase of 5% compared to the previous year.

In the captive market, where residences and sectors such as commercial e rural, consumption in January reached 45.458 MWmed, approximately 7,5% higher than that recorded in 2023.

According to CCEE, lower temperatures and an increase in rainfall in January had a negative impact on electricity consumption in Rio Grande do Sul, which showed a reduction of 7,1%, being the only state not to record growth.

On the other hand, the lack of rain in the northern region of the country and high temperatures caused consumption to soar in the states of Amazonas (25,1%), Maranhão (21,0%), Mato Grosso (16,9%) and Acre (14,9%).
