The amount recovered would be enough to supply all the homes and businesses in Taguatinga (DF) for a month. The city leads the ranking of occurrences of “gatos”, followed by other istrative regions of the DF.

In the first nine months of the year, more than 1,5 locations that were using energy irregularly were regularized, with an average of six incidents per day.

In addition to impacting the quality of supply, “cats” represent a risk of serious accidents for those who carry out the practice and for the population.

According to Neoenergia, all stolen energy is charged through istrative processes, and those responsible may be criminally prosecuted.

In October, in a t action with the PCDF (Civil Police of the Federal District), Neoenergia dismantled a scheme to tamper with energy meters in motels, which generated losses of R$860. In this case, the diverted energy would be enough to supply more than 4.700 consumer units for 30 days.

“Our goal is to ensure that customers can consume energy regularly, safely and without compromising the quality of electricity distribution,” explained Wilson Matias, Revenue Protection Supervisor at Neoenergia Brasília. He also highlighted the increase in fraud in solar energy systems, which led the company to reinforce inspections in this segment.

In addition to these actions, Neoenergia replaced 31 energy meters with more modern and efficient models, replacing equipment that was damaged or had reached the end of its useful life. This technological update contributes to a more accurate measurement system and more efficient energy distribution.

The concessionaire also highlighted that reports of illegal connections can be made anonymously through customer service channels.
