O ONS (National Electric System Operator) released the new bulletin PMO (Monthly Operation Program), in which it highlights that in May a load demand from without (National Interconnected System) must present a 5,5% expansion, equivalent to 77.072 MWmed.

The estimated progress in the subsystems Northeast (13.023 MWmed) and in Sul (12.965 MWmed) is the same: 5,7%. The acceleration must reach 5,6% in the Southeast/Central-West (43.541 MWmed) and 4,7% in the North (7.543 MWmed).

Even with the growth in demand for energy in the country, the ONS highlights that the outlook for the percentages of EAR (Stored Energy) at the end of May is that all subsystems exceed the 70% threshold.

Stored energy represents the energy associated with the volume of water available in the reservoirs that can be converted into generation at the plant itself or at all plants downstream in the cascade. The magnitude of the EAR takes into the level verified in the reservoirs on the reference date.

According to the ONS, the region with the highest EAR projection at the end of May is the North, with 98,4%, followed by the South (93,7%), Northeast (74,6%) and the Southeast/Central-West (74,5%). “The data, if confirmed, indicates a positive scenario for the indicator in this transition to the typically dry period”, highlights the Operator.
