The ONS (National Electric System Operator) ed, this Friday (21), a new record of instantaneous load demand in the SIN (National Interconnected System), driven by high temperatures in several regions of the country.

At 14:24 p.m., preliminary figures collected by the agency indicated that demand reached 104.732 MW. This is the fourth record-breaking moment in maximum instantaneous demand this year.

The previous record had been ed in February 12, when instantaneous consumption reached 103.754 MW. Before that, the highest marks of the year occurred in February 11 (103.335 MW) and January 22, (102.810 MW).

According to Marcio Rea, general director of ONS, the increase in load has been directly influenced by the intense heat, which increases the use of appliances such as air conditioning and fans.

Despite the high demand, he emphasizes that the SIN has operated safely and with full capacity to meet the needs of the Brazilian electrical system.

“The new record reinforces how the SIN is responding safely and appropriately to the growing demand for load. The ONS planning studies had mapped this behavior and the operation was prepared to meet what we are observing: a constant breaking of records in load demand, while maintaining the balance of the Brazilian electrical system,” he said.
