With the arrival of the wet season, the electrical system is starting to receive good news. In the last week of October, rainfall has already exceeded the historical average in the basins of the Grande, Paranaíba, São Francisco and Madeira rivers.
The return of rains has slowed the emptying of hydroelectric reservoirs. According to the ONS (National System Operator), the recovery of reservoir levels will be more noticeable from January onwards.
Between November 2024 and April 2025, rainfall is expected to be between 62% and 96% of the MLT (Long Term Average).
Optimism about the wet season is already impacting prices in the Free Energy Market. In the first week of September, the price of conventional energy for 2024 exceeded R$480/MWh. In the first week of November, the value fell to around R$180/MWh.
For the week of November 9-15, the projections for Inflowing Natural Energy are high for two subsystems: the Southeast/Central-West should reach 118% of the MLT and the North, 90%. In the Northeast and South, the projections are close, at 85% and 83% of the MLT, respectively.
The forecast for the end of November is that the reservoirs will reach the following storage levels: 57,1% in the South, 51,4% in the North, 46,4% in the Northeast and 42,7% in the Southeast/Central-West.
