O ONS (National Electric System Operator) sent, last week, a letter to agents who operate thermal plants Brazilian women asking them to stay 'on standby' to guarantee the electrical energy supply to consumers.

O The request aims to guarantee service in case of need for dispatch throughout the dry period and the transition to the 2024/2025 wet period, as highlighted by document to which the Canal Solar had access.

According to the Operator, over the last few months, the precipitation and inflows observed in some of the main river basins have been “significantly below the historical average”.

The statement also explains that, in addition to adverse hydrometeorological conditions, the electric sector Brazilian is ing in 2024 by growth in cargo demand compared to recent years, mainly from the perspective of the daily load peak.

“In view of the points listed (…) it is requested to maximize the availability of thermal generation and the readiness of the plants in order to guarantee electrical energy service in the event of the need for dispatch to meet the without (National Interconnected System)”, highlights the Operator.

“The measure is part of the operational policy, with actions aimed at the good management of the SIN, aiming to fully meet the load and power demands of Brazilian society”, highlighted the ONS, in a position sent to the Canal Solar.

Historic drought

On July 3 of this year, the CMSE (Electricity Sector Monitoring Committee) presented pessimistic forecasts in relation to the rainy season in Brazil, highlighting that the July is expected to be the third driest in the SIN in 94 years, in the best of the elaborated scenarios, as note published.
