From 2026, more than 400 public facilities managed by the City of Porto Alegre (RS) will be supplied by solar energy systems.

Among these facilities, buildings such as the Intendente José Montaury Building, the public market, health units, as well as traffic lights, squares and parks stand out.

This initiative is provided for in the contract that was signed this week between capital of Rio Grande do Sul and the Sustainable Energy South consortium, made up of the companies Sustainable Energy of Piauí and Fontesul Soluções.

With a total investment of R$ 114 million distributed over 25 years, the agreement provides for a generation of 7 million kWh and a annual savings of R$600 for the municipality.

In addition to the financial savings, the project will contribute to reducing municipal expenses by up to 10% and will prevent the emission of more than 500 tons of CO₂ into the atmosphere annually.

The contract includes the installation, operation and maintenance of 11 new solar plants. The installation locations are yet to be defined by the consortium and will be under concession by CEEE Equatorial, and may not be limited to the city of Porto Alegre.

The City Hall emphasizes that the number of solar plants foreseen by the agreement can be adjusted if the consortium develops more efficient projects.

This flexibility allows the municipality to adopt advanced technological solutions, maximizing the environmental and economic benefits of the agreement.
