Porto do Açu Operações receives I-REC for using 100% renewable energy

A Port of Açu Operations, company of Plumb Group responsible for the istration of the Açu port complex, in North Fluminense, received certification I-REC (International Renewable Energy Certificate), which proves the use of 100% clean energy in its production chain.

The I-REC, obtained through the Commerce Energy, attests to the use of 1.711 MWh of clean energy in 2023 by Porto do Açu Operações in its port and istrative facilities and in the Caruara Reserve.

“The I-REC certificate is another important achievement in our ESG journey, which attests to our efforts towards the sustainable development of our business. In 2023, we reduced the carbon and water footprints of our operations and obtained, for the second time, the international Ecoports seal, the sector's main certification – a recognition of our commitment to the best environmental, social and governance practices”, highlights Vinicius Patel, director of Port istration at Porto do Açu Operações.

I-REC is considered an audited, safe recognition and meets the I-REC methodology. GHG-Protocol, compatible with the most used international standards to quantify greenhouse gas emissions. 

With the aim of achieving high-performance environmental performance, comparable to the main ports in the world, the Port of Açu Operations has already acquired the volume of renewable energy that will be consumed in its activities in 2024 and 2025.
