Technical and economic feasibility studies are already underway to supply all public buildings in the Federal District with solar energy. Named “Solar Lighting Capital”, the project includes an investment of R$ 130 million to build photovoltaic plants that will add 100 MW of installed capacity.

The project is being developed by CEB (Companhia Energética de Brasília). The concessionaire will be responsible for 20% of the investment and the remainder will be paid for by NDB (New Development Bank), the Brics bank.

The objective of the investment is to reduce electricity costs in order to use resources in other relevant areas of public management, such as infrastructure, health and safety.

“The investment in the construction of a photovoltaic plant to meet the energy demand of public buildings and structures is an important step by the Federal District in reconciling the sustainable agenda and the more efficient management of government resources”, stated Edison Garcia, president of CEB .

The photovoltaic modules will be installed on two public lands, one in Brazlândia and the other close to the Catetinho Museum.

University of Roraima opens solar plant

The Federal University of Roraima (UFRR) inaugurated, this Monday (22) on the Paricarana campus, a 505,44 kWp solar plant, with the installation of 1.116 s occupying an area of 2.300 m². With four photovoltaic inverters and two 300 kVA substations, the project should have an average daily production of 1.500 kWh.

According to José Geraldo Ticianeli, rector of UFRR, the implementation of the photovoltaic plant reiterates the university's commitment to sustainable and innovative practices. “With this inauguration, we begin a new moment for our university through the use of clean and renewable energy.”

“We will have a reduction in the cost of electricity consumption, in addition to being an important space for training academics in the technological area at UFRR”, he highlighted.
