The MME (Ministry of Mines and Energy) extended until April 26th the Public Consultation No. 160/24, aimed at debating the guidelines for the 2024 Capacity Reserve Auction. This extension aims to provide more time for the various agents to contribute with their suggestions to improve the tender notice. The consultation was scheduled to close on March 28.

With the date scheduled to take place on August 30, the capacity auction was initially designed to contract three products: two from thermoelectric generation and one from hydroelectric origin. The contracts will begin supplying in the years 2027 and 2028, with a duration varying between 7 and 15 years.

In an interview in the United States, Minister Alexandre Silveira surprised by announcing the inclusion of the participation of energy storage systems in the event, an addition that was not previously foreseen.

The main objective of the event is to contract power reserves to meet the security criteria of the SIN (National Interconnected System). According to the MME, climate change has represented significant challenges for the operation of the electricity sector, increasing the importance of guaranteeing sources that can meet demand during periods of greater consumption and lower generation of renewable sources.
