The Brazilian photovoltaic sector recorded significant advances in 2024, with emphasis on the operational performance of several solar parks, according to the “Wind and Solar Operational Ranking”, prepared by ePowerBay.

The study, based on data from CCEE (Electric Energy Commercialization Chamber), points out that, in the solar energy sector alone, the country has 630 projects in operation, totaling 17,9 GW of installed power and an average capacity factor of 20,3% — an indicator that measures how much a plant generated in relation to its maximum potential.

Among the top-performing solar parks are projects from companies such as Lightsource bp, Proton Energy, Recurrent Energy, Grupo Cobra, Essentia Energia, GPC and the Nebras Power/Canadian Solar partnership.

Together, these companies for the 20 highest-ranked centralized solar power generation projects in the study in 2024. Check out the full study by clicking here.

In the criterion of power, stand out:

  • A plant from the Sol do Sertão Project, from Essentia Energia, with 95,2 MW;
  • Two plants at the Belmonte Solar Complex, from the Cobra Group, with 50 MW each;
  • Two from the Hélio Valgas Photovoltaic Plant, from Comerc Energia, with 50 MW each;
  • A 40 MW plant at the Jaíba Complex, owned by Recurrent Energy;
  • Two plants from the Milagres Project, from Lightsource bp, with 32,74 MW each.

When the highlight is the capacity factor, lead the ranking:

  • A plant at the Sobrado Solar Complex, owned by Proton Energy, with 29,6%;
  • Three from the Salgueiro Solar Plant, from the companies Nebras Power and Canadian Solar, one of which is 29,4% and the other two are 29,3%.

“Being recognized in this way demonstrates a company’s ability to consistently deliver excellent results. In our case, it also reinforces our commitment to the energy transition to meet the growing demand for renewable energy,” said Ricardo Barros, Country Manager at Lightsource bp.
