Forty health institutions in the regions affected by the weather events of 2024 in the State of Rio Grande do Sul, will receive investments for the recovery and modernization of electrical installations by EPE (Energy Efficiency Program) regulated by ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency).

The “Energy Efficiency Project in Public and Private Health Entities Affected by the 2024 Floods” was approved this week by the Agency's collegiate board and has a total investment of R$23,7 million.

Proposed by RGE South Energy Distributor SA, with the cooperation of FL Paulista, Piratininga and Santa Cruz, the project was developed in response to the largest natural disaster in the history of the state. The objective is to promote the sustainable and efficient use of electricity in hospitals and basic health units.

Solutions include replacing inefficient lighting systems with 17.753 lamps with high-performance LED technology; installing photovoltaic systems to generate renewable energy, with a total installed capacity of 2.795,45 kWp; implementing energy storage systems (BESS) to reduce peak demand and provide backup in cases of power outages; and replacing motor systems and installing generators to ensure the continuity of essential health services, even in adverse situations.

Together, the measures adopted will save approximately 4.811,83 MWh of energy and 224,23 kW in peak demand annually, in addition to avoiding the emission of 191,59 tons of CO₂ per year.

PEE (Energy Efficiency Program)

Due to the publication of the Authorizing Resolution No. 15.415, made by ANEEL, on June 9, 2024, PEE resources were made flexible on an exceptional basis to expand their use to contribute to the population affected by the public calamity situation in Rio Grande do Sul.
