In March 2025, the SIN (National Interconnected System) recorded a load of 86.127 MWmed, marking an increase of 3,2% compared to the same period last year.

Last year, energy demand showed a positive variation of 5% compared to the previous period, according to the ONS. The information is in the March 2025 Load Bulletin, published by the entity.

This growth in load was observed in three subsystems of the country:

  • North had an increase of 6,2%, with a total of 7.857 MWmed;
  • South showed an increase of 5,8%, reaching 15.540 MWmed;-
  • Southeast/Central-West had a growth of 3%, with 49.221 MWmed.

However, the Northeast recorded a slight drop of 0,8%, totaling 13.509 MWmed. These comparisons refer to March 2025 compared to March 2024.

Load evolution

The breakdown by consumption class is provided in the EPE Market Review for March/25. Data: ONS

All subsystems showed an increase. The North rose 7,2%, the South grew 6,1%, the Southeast/Central-West region grew 4,8%, and the Northeast, despite the drop in March, grew 3,3% in the last 12 months.

The variation is explained, in part, by Carnival falling in March, reducing working days and influencing consumption.
