Senator Cleitinho (Republicanos-MG) defended the cutting of resources from the electoral and party fund as a way of promoting social and political justice in his speech in the Plenary, this Wednesday (23).

The parliamentarian criticized the use of public funds by political parties. For him, a large part of this amount should be directed to social policies, such as subsidizing electricity bills for low-income families.

Cleitinho stated that the Government proposal benefiting part of the Brazilian population with exemption from the energy bill has their , as long as the cost does not fall on the rest of the population.

“Take R$4 billion from the electoral fund, from the party fund. I am here ready to vote, whenever you want. Do you really want to solve the people’s problems and be on the people’s side? Take it from the politicians and give it to the people! Do like Robin Hood: take it from the rich and give it to the poor,” he declared.

The senator also pointed out what he called alternatives to finance the exemption, such as redirecting funds from state-owned companies such as Itaipu e Eletrobras, in addition to reducing spending on institutional advertising.

Cleitinho cited the example of energy bills with a high tax burden to argue that it is necessary to alleviate the burdens paid by the population.
