A survey carried out by Canal Solar, based on data from ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency), points out that six Brazilian states – Alagoas; Mato Grosso do Sul; Minas Gerais; Paraíba; Pernambuco and Rio Grande do Norte – are already preparing to expand their installed photovoltaic power in large plants by more than 1.000%, in the so-called GC (Centralized Generation).
The growth will occur due to photovoltaic projects which, at the moment, are in the construction phase or awaiting the release of works in these locations.
The State of Minas Gerais, for example – which currently operates with 0,6 GW of solar power – is awaiting an increase of more than 11 GW in its energy matrix, coming from projects in the construction phase and from licensed plants.
In Paraíba, investments in solar energy in the GC segment were high in 2021. The State has valued partnerships with companies interested in implementing projects such as the largest solar factory in Latin America, in João Pessoa, and one of the largest solar parks in the country, in the municipality of Santa Luzia.
At the end of November, governor João Azevêdo (PSB) met, in João Pessoa, with representatives from the company Atua Energia, to discuss details for the installation of photovoltaic plants in the cities of Boa Vista, Boqueirão, Juazeirinho and Queimadas. Work should begin in January and the systems are expected to come into operation in the second half of 2022.
In Mato Grosso do Sul, the largest percentage increase among the six states listed is expected. Operating power in the region will grow from 0,002 GW to just over 0,8 GW. Like other locations, the region has also invested in projects aimed at promoting renewable energy in its municipalities.
The same also happens in Alagoas and Pernambuco, which will increase their centralized installed power from 0,04 to 0,5 GW and from 0,2 to 3 GW, respectively. In Pernambuco, for example, one of the largest solar complexes in Brazil was installed in June this year, in the municipality of São José do Belmonte, approximately 500 km from Recife.

From January to October 2020, distributed solar generation in Bahia grew 118% compared to the entire previous year, according to the Brazilian Association of Photovoltaic Solar Energy (ABSOLAR). The installed power from solar sources in the state increased from 63,2 MW to 138,3 MW in the period.
