JA Solar ships 6,04 GW in Q3 2021

The photovoltaic module manufacturer also announced increases in revenue and profit and outlined plans for 2022

The photovoltaic module manufacturer JA Solar shipped 6,04 GW in the third quarter of 2021, with overseas and domestic shipments ing for 62% and 38%, respectively. As a result, this year, 16 GW were shipped by the end of September, more than the total in 2020.

“In 2021, the total shipment target will remain at 25-30 GW. However, due to rising prices (modules) and reduced global market demand, we are focused on ensuring profitability with orders placed,” the company said in a statement.

“Under these circumstances, we must board as much as possible. Based on the market situation, we estimate that new installed capacity globally next year will be around 190-220 GW,” they stated.

Regarding revenue, the company highlighted that it was US$ 1,5 B (9,9 billion yuan), an increase of 71% compared to the same period last year. Net profit was almost US$100 M (600 million yuan), an increase of 1,44% compared to the same period in 2020.

JA expansion plans

At the end of 2020, the company's module production capacity was 23 GW. By the end of this year, it is estimated that JA Solar will reach 40 GW, “strengthening its leadership position and continuous growth, among the four main suppliers in the world market”, highlighted the manufacturer.

Regarding expectations for 2022, the company said it will carry out technological transformations, updates and expansions in all links according to market demand and shipment targets in 2023.

“For example, factories for silicon wafers and 158mm and 166mm cells should be 'retrofitted' to the 182 mm (M10) size and will be concentrated at the Baotou base, in China, with 20 GW projects.

JA Solar also has some power plants in operation. At the end of the first three quarters of this year, the total installed capacity of operating plant projects that generated revenue from the sale of external energy was approximately 440 MW.

Currently, three national photovoltaic plant projects with a capacity of 480 MW are under construction, which should be connected to the grid to generate electricity by the end of 2021.
