Solar energy advances in with 1,4 GW connected in the first quarter of 2025

Medium and large-scale facilities were the driving force behind the sector's growth, according to a study by Territoire Solaire

In the first quarter of 2025, reached a volume of connected photovoltaic systems of 1,4 GW, with rooftops with a power of 36 to 500 kW representing nearly 52% of connections, second report published by think tanks Solar Territory.

O document shows that medium and large roof installations saw a strong increase at the beginning of the year. In contrast, the self-consumption sector recorded a decline, with around 51,585 installations connected. The residential segment also recorded a slight decline, with 268 MW connected.

De according to the report of the Sunny Territory:

  • Medium rooftops (36 to 100 KW) saw a slight increase with 114 MW connected;
  • Large roofs, with power between 100 and 500 KW, showed a significant increase, ing an absolute record with 641 MW connected;
  • The rooftop segment between 500 KW and 1 MW saw a slight increase with 18 MW connected;
  • In large installations, 500 KW or more, there was a drop, with 384 MW connected.   

In 2024, energy generated from photovoltaic systems generated gross consumption of 4,9% in the fourth half of the year. The report also highlights records of an increase in the waiting list in the distribution network compared to the previous quarter. By the end of the first quarter of 2025, the total number of projects on hold reached 26,28 GW.

On the global panorama, by the year 2023, around 447 GW were connected worldwide, an increase of around 87% compared to the year 2022. Much of this growth, around 56%, was achieved by China and, successively, Europe (15%), Americas (13%) and Asia-Pacific (11%).
