The use of photovoltaic systems with batteries for energy storage was the solution found by Neoenergia to further reduce the costs of charitable health units in the states of Bahia and Pernambuco.
Managed by Obras Sociais Irmã Dulce, the HSA (Hospital Santo Antônio), in Salvador (BA), and the H (Hospital de Câncer de Pernambuco), in Recife (PE), are already served by the photovoltaic source, coming from s installed by the company.
Os BESS (Battery Energy Storage System) systems are designed to reduce consumption during peak hours. Together, the investments total R$10,5 million and benefit institutions that provide more than 3,5 million services per year.
The batteries will be charged at times of lowest cost and consumption in hospitals (early morning, for example) and dispatched during the period that marks peak consumption in the SIN (National Interconnected System), between late afternoon and early evening on weekdays.
The forecast is that the two northeastern health units will have an annual saving of approximately R$2 million in electricity costs.
At the hospital in Pernambuco, R$3,5 million was invested so that the new storage system would be capable of meeting 80% of the unit's energy demand during peak hours, enabling a reduction of up to 400 kW in energy demand during this period and annual savings of around R$600 thousand on the electricity bill.
With initiatives such as the installation of the solar plant and now the installation of the lithium-ion battery, we will be able to significantly reduce our energy costs, which allows us to invest even more in direct patient care”, highlights the general superintendent of H, Sidney Neves.
In Salvador, Neoenergia Coelba's donations total R$7 million in investments made possible by the distributor's Energy Efficiency Program. The installation of the solar plant will supply approximately 15% of the hospital's energy consumption demand.
The battery system is capable of meeting 70% of the hospital's demand during peak hours, significantly reducing energy costs during periods of greatest demand.
The project will allow the hospital to save 1.050 MWh per year and reduce, on average, 600 kW in peak energy demand, resulting in an annual saving on the electricity bill estimated at R$1,4 million.
