A solar energy added little more than 10 GW of installed capacity in Brazil only between the months of January and October 2023, including own generation plants and centralized generation enterprises.

Such volume caused the country to stop emitting near 9 million tons of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere – an average of close to 900 thousand tons per GW installed in the first ten months of this year.

Os data were investigated by Canal Solar, based on information present in the monthly newsletters from ABSOLAR (Brazilian Photovoltaic Solar Energy Association).

According to the association, since 2012 (when the expansion of solar sources began in the country) more than 42,4 million tons of CO2 stopped being issued due to the solar power plants working.

Other benefits

According to ABSOLAR, the solar source has also brought to Brazil – since its arrival – around R$ 166,9 billion in new investments, of which $ 45,3 billion were counted only between the months of January and October this year.

Furthermore, more than R$47 billion in revenue for public coffers, being little more than R$8 billion this year.

In relation to jobs created, the ABSOLAR estimates that more than 1 million new work points have been generated in Brazil only from solar energy.

In January this year, this number was 720 thousand issions – which means that there were but of 320 thousand jobs created by the source in 2023.
