Solar energy has just reached the 50 GW mark of installed capacity in Brazil, according to data released this Tuesday (26) by ABSOLAR (Brazilian Photovoltaic Solar Energy Association).

The balance takes into the sum of the accumulated volumes between the solar own generation via small and medium systems and the large solar plants, with 33,5 GW and 16,5 GW spread across the country.

According to ABSOLAR, the photovoltaic sector has already been responsible for bringing more than R$229,7 billion in new investments to Brazil, for generating more than 1,5 million green jobs and for ing for more than R$71 billion in revenue for public coffers since the beginning of its expansion.

During this period, the solar source also prevented the emission of around 60,6 million tons of CO2 in electricity generation. Currently, the source is equivalent to 20,7% of the installed capacity of the Brazilian electricity matrix, being the second largest in the matrix.

With this new milestone, Brazil s the select group of six countries in the world to reach and exceed 50 GW of operational power from solar sources, together with China, the United States, , India and Japan, which lead in this order the global ranking of installed photovoltaic power.
