A solar energy sured the brand of 20% share in electric matrix Brazilian, with more than 48 GW of power in operation, including large-scale plants and distributed micro and mini-generation systems.

The data is part of new monthly bulletin of ABSOLAR (Brazilian Association of Photovoltaic Solar Energy), released late afternoon this Tuesday (15). The numbers complicated by the entity were updated until October 9.

According to the association, the solar energy has been (for some time now) the second source with the highest percentage of participation in the electricity matrix, second only to hydroelectric generation – which holds 46% of the entire operational volume (109,9 GW of the 239,2 GW).

This year alone, the share of solar energy in Brazil's electricity grid has risen from 16,5% in January to the current 20,2%. This growth has also caused the source to move away from wind farms, which have grown by 0,7% so far in 2024 (from 12,9% to 13,5%).

According to the president of ABSOLAR, Rodrigo Sauaia, solar energy is a technology that, more than ever, represents a lever for the social, economic and environmental development of the country.

“The growth of the solar source can further accelerate the attraction of investments, the generation of jobs and income and Brazil’s international leadership in the energy transition,” said the executive.

Benefits generated by solar energy

In addition to pointing to an increase in the share of solar energy in the national electricity matrix, the new survey by ABSOLAR It also highlights that technology has already been responsible for attracting around R$222,4 billion in new investments to the country and more than R$68,6 billion in revenue to public coffers since 2012.

During this period, the clean and renewable source has also been responsible for generating more than 1,4 million green jobs and preventing more than 58,6 million tons of CO2 from being emitted into the atmosphere.

  1. I installed it in my home in 2022 and I still inject it into the network for two of my children's houses. Very satisfied. From Salvador/Bahia.
