The use of solar energy systems with batteries has the potential to reduce the cost of electricity in isolated communities in the Legal Amazon by up to 44%, according to lifting disclosed by the National Front of Energy Consumers.
The analysis indicates that by replacing current diesel generators with photovoltaic solutions with storage, residents of these regions not only gain access to a cleaner and more economically viable energy source, but also gain a better quality of life.
According to the study, families living in isolated and hard-to-reach communities in the Amazon can spend up to R$900,00 per month to use diesel generators — which, in general, can only operate for six to eight hours a day.
With the adoption of solar systems with batteries, the energy supply would become uninterrupted, improving and generating a significant social impact on the daily lives of these populations.
The study points out that the lack of regular electricity supply in these communities compromises all local development, hindering everything from basic activities, such as food storage, to structural issues, such as night school, remote work and the operation of small businesses.
Currently, around 4 million Brazilians live without adequate access to electricity. Of these, 2,7 million live in the so-called SISOL – which are isolated systems outside the SIN (National Interconnected System) grid), where supply depends almost exclusively on diesel generators, with high financial and environmental costs.
