The price of wafers of P-type photovoltaic solar cells (P-Type) with 182 mm continues to fall in the international market: after falling 3,9% in October, the input started the first week of November 4% cheaper, according to data released by the new bulletin of InfoLink Consulting.

The survey, which monitors the global costs of the main inputs in the photovoltaic production chain on a weekly basis, highlights that the value of this type of wafer fell from $0,149 to $0,143 per piece in the last week.

In the year to date, the reduction in the input has already reached 42,3%, considering that, in January, the price was US$ 0,248 per piece.

Os wafers of the 210 mm Type-P also follow a similar trend: although they have not shown any variation in relation to the last week, they accumulate an annual reduction of 43,1% – going from US$ 0,373 to US$ 0,212 in 2024.

As for the other inputs in the photovoltaic chain, such as polysilicon, cells e photovoltaic modules, did not record significant reductions in the most recent InfoLink Consulting bulletin.

What are wafers?

O wafer It is an extremely thin slice of a silicon ingot, used to produce the photovoltaic cells that make up solar s.

Due to its delicacy, the wafer of a photovoltaic cell can break easily, even with a light touch, which makes the process of manufacturing solar s complex and high-precision.

In addition to careful handling, the wafers They go through a series of chemical processes that transform them into photovoltaic cells, ready to make up solar modules.

These procedures are essential to guarantee the durability and efficiency of photovoltaic s, reflecting a continuous advancement of solar technology for the global market.
