Brazil recorded a 3% growth in the number of solar energy DG (distributed generation) installations in the first two months of 2025, totaling 109 thousand new projects and reaching the mark of 3,3 million systems in operation.

However, the expansion of installed capacity slowed down in the country, with an increase of just 1,2 MWp, which meant a volume 24% lower than that recorded in the same period last year.

The data comes from a survey published by Soleasy, based on information from the ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency).

The increase in the prices of solar equipment – due to factors such as the rise in the dollar and the increase in import taxes on photovoltaic modules, for example – is indicated as the main factor for the slowdown in growth in installed capacity.

“With higher costs, many integrators have found it difficult to make larger projects viable,” said Fabio Carrara, CEO and founder of Solfácil.

Despite the cost pressure, the executive emphasizes that solar energy remains an attractive investment. “The payback for the end consumer can be less than three years. No other market in the world offers such a quick return,” he said.

Facility profile

The Solfácil study also identified that the profile of DG installations of solar energy consumers has also changed in Brazil in recent years.

According to the research, small systems, with a capacity between 3 and 6 kWp, went from 35% in 2019 to 48% of new installations in 2025, consolidating themselves as the main power range in the market.

Even with high interest rates, solar financing is more accessible than it was a year ago

The residential segment continues to lead the adoption of technology, ing for 84% of projects. In addition, the company highlights that more than 5% of Brazilian consumer units already use solar energy.

The Central-West region has the highest adhesion rate, with 8,5% penetration, while the Northeast has the lowest rate, at 4,4%.

Among the states, São Paulo, Mato Grosso and Minas Gerais were the ones that most expanded the adoption of solar energy in the country in the last 12 months. Rio Grande do Sul, Paraná, Bahia, Pará, Goiás, Mato Grosso do Sul and Pernambuco also stand out.
