Brazil has sured the cumulative mark of 1,7 million green jobs created by the solar energy sector, according to data released by ABSOLAR (Brazilian Association of Photovoltaic Solar Energy) this Thursday (22).
Of this amount, more than 500 thousand new jobs were created in the last 12 months (between May 2024 and 2025) – which represents more than 40% of the total issions completed since the beginning of the source's expansion in the country.
The volume is impressive considering the restrictions caused by flow reversal for entrepreneurs in the DG (distributed generation) sector and the problems faced by large generators to the detriment of curtailment.
In 2025 alone, almost 200 jobs were created by companies in the micro and mini distributed generation segment and by entrepreneurs who invest in the construction, operation and maintenance of large photovoltaic projects across the country.
Other indicators
Since the beginning of its expansion in Brazil, the photovoltaic source has already prevented the emission of 81,4 million tons of CO₂ and guaranteed the attraction of R$258,2 billion.
Furthermore, it allowed around R$80,3 billion to be collected for public coffers through tax collection.
Currently, solar energy already represents 22,7% of all installed capacity in the Brazilian electricity matrix, occupying second place among generation sources – behind only hydroelectric plants, which still have a 44,1% share.
In May 2022 – that is, exactly three years ago – the share of solar energy in the national electricity matrix was only 7,8%, being only the fifth most prominent source (hydro, wind, natural gas and biomass were ahead of solar), according to the ABSOLAR.
Projections
In its traditional annual projection, always released in December, the ABSOLAR estimated that solar energy would add another 13,2 GW of installed capacity in 2025, reaching 64,7 GW accumulated by the end of the year.
Of this projected total, around 43 GW would come from distributed micro and mini-generation systems and 21,7 GW would come from the performance of large centralized generation solar plants.
Recently, the solar source sured the 56 GW mark of installed capacity, whereas at the beginning of the year (in January) there was approximately 50 GW accumulated.
