Almost a year and a half after the Gerdau establish a partnership with the investment manager Newave Capital, and about to fully energize your solar plant in the city of Arinos in Minas Gerais, j Newave Energia will begin construction of the Barro Alto project in Goiás, another large-scale and highly competitive national plant.

With 452 MWp, the construction of the system will require investments of R$ 1,3 billion, part of which comes from equity and the other part comes from financing from SUDECO, operated by Banco do Brasil. The estimate is that the plant will enter full commercial operation in early 2026.

Edgard Corrochano, CEO of Newave Energia and founder of Newave Capital, and Elder Rapachi, executive director of Gerdau Next, explain that the volume of energy to be generated by the Barro Alto plant corresponds to approximately 111 MWmed – which in energy equivalencies could supply the consumption of a city with around 365 thousand inhabitants.

“We bought 731 thousand solar s for this project that will be distributed over approximately 800 hectares. During the construction phase of this plant, more than 1.500 direct jobs should be created”, said Corrochano. The executive also emphasizes that all capital is 100% Brazilian. “We raised more than R$900 million in the FIP with more than 15 thousand investors.”

As per the partnership plan, the photovoltaic project will supply part of the energy volume for Gerdau's steel production units in Brazil, within its decarbonization process.

“This is another important step in Gerdau’s decarbonization strategy and in increasing the competitiveness of our operations in Brazil. Gerdau already has one of the lowest global averages for greenhouse gas emissions, 50% lower than the global average for the steel sector,” said Rapachi.

The plant will also sell part of the electricity generated on the free energy market, a segment in which consumers have the flexibility to choose their suppliers and establish contracts based on specific sources, and prices.

The construction of the system, which will be the largest in the state, will represent a 22% increase in the region's solar energy generation capacity, making photovoltaic energy the second largest source of energy production in Goiás.

  1. Good morning, who will be responsible for the construction of the Solar Power Plant? Who will be responsible for purchasing electrical materials such as electrical cables?
