The installation of large wind and solar power plants in the Rio Grande do Norte attracted more than R$10 billion in 2024, with R$7,8 billion in wind power plants and R$2,3 billion in photovoltaic parks.
The data is part of the “Balance of the Electric Sector of RN – Base Year 2024”, released earlier this week by Sedec-RN (Secretariat of Economic Development, Science, Technology and Innovation).
The document also points out that the forecast for new investments in the parks potiguares wind and solar energy total R$55,3 billion by 2030.
“The estimated investment values for the start-up of new wind farms could reach R$21,3 billion in the coming years. In the case of photovoltaic projects, these values could reach R$34 billion,” informs Sedec-RN.
The total number of direct and indirect jobs generated by new projects in these two segments reached 13,5 thousand last year. There were 10,4 thousand in the wind sector and 3,1 thousand in the photovoltaic sector.
The Bulletin highlights that, in 2024, 45 new plants were installed, of which 27 were wind power plants and 18 were solar power plants in 11 municipalities, with the two arrays totaling 1,65 GW of added power last year.
“The electricity grid of the State of Rio Grande do Norte continues to be essentially renewable. Wind energy, solar photovoltaic energy, biomass and hydroelectric energy are responsible for 98,9% of all the power granted (commercialized power) in the state”, highlights the publication.
“When it comes to installed power (power in operation), these sources have a similar percentage, with 97,8% of all power in operation”, adds the document.
Currently, wind farms are responsible for 77,9% of all energy generation projects in operation in the state.
When considering wind power projects, the projects in operation correspond to 79,9%. Solar power plants represent 12,6% of all projects in operation in the state.
“This source also represents the largest number of projects already commercialized and not yet built, with a total of 198 projects, corresponding to 77,6% of all plants with construction not yet started,” the study points out.
According to Sedec-RN, the balance of the electrical sector in Rio Grande do Norte presents the main data regarding the development of the state's electrical matrix.
“This is a contribution to providing relevant information that characterizes the development of renewable energy generation projects. Information on installed and granted power, project development phase, main producing municipalities and investments made for the construction of wind and solar plants, make up the database that was highlighted in the electricity sector in Rio Grande do Norte in 2024”, says the publication.
