According to data from IEA (International Energy Agency), the use of energy storage systems in the global market increased by more than 130% in 2023, an increase of 42 GW of power and more than 90 GWh of installed capacity in a single year.

Countries such as China, the United States and England have led the adoption of the technology: a versatile and promising solution that, in addition to providing operational flexibility, guarantees the safe expansion of renewable energy and the energy transition.

Since 2021, the Brazilian electrical system has been showing signs that the insertion of this type of solution contributes to ensuring greater flexibility and operational security, both in cases of distributed and centralized applications.

In an interview with Canal Solar, José Wanderley Marangon, CEO of MC&E and secretary of INEL (National Institute of Clean Energy), explains that storage systems are today a fundamental piece to make renewable energy more stable and reduce Brazil's expenses with the implementation of transmission lines.

The executive also commented on the advantages that the country would have if batteries were included in auctions, such as Capacity Reserve, and how their application can help balance supply and demand, avoiding energy peaks and outages, in addition to other related issues.
