Companies in Brazil continue to advance in the adoption of sustainability practices, according to data from the 3rd edition of the Corporate Sustainability Panorama survey, carried out by Amcham Brasil in partnership with Humanizadas.

The study indicates that the country is going through a period of maturation of this movement in organizations, with sustainable practices increasingly integrated into business strategies.

The report, presented during the Amcham 2025 Sustainability Forum, held at the Ipiranga Museum, interviewed 401 businesspeople, representing around 505 thousand direct jobs and an annual revenue of R$2,9 trillion for the country.

Sustainability gains space in the strategy

The survey shows that 76% of companies are already in a relevant position on the sustainability maturity curve — with 52% engaged in the structured adoption of sustainable practices and 24% standing out for leading these practices in their sectors.

The result represents a growth of 5 pp (percentage points) compared to the previous year's survey.

The evolution is also evident in business strategy: 72% of companies state that sustainable actions are already part of their corporate strategy, compared to 34% in the previous survey.

“Sustainability is no longer treated as an isolated agenda and has become increasingly central to business decisions. The challenge that remains is to determine, with reliable data and indicators, the financial value it generates for the business,” said Abrão Neto, president of Amcham Brasil.

Consolidating value: the challenge for companies

Among the main challenges perceived by companies to accelerate their commitments to sustainability are:

  • Proof of financial return on sustainable actions (58%);
  • Senior leadership engagement (54%);
  • Alignment between sustainability, culture and business model (44%).

The research also reveals that only 48% of companies use benchmarks and external assessments to their decisions in the area of sustainability, indicating the need for greater use of measurable data, reliable indicators, international standards and independent analyses.

Trends for the coming years

The companies' main bets for the next cycles include:

  • Align sustainability with financial performance and business model (75%);
  • Strengthen the organizational culture oriented towards sustainability (62%);
  • Invest in clean energy, innovation and sustainable technologies (51%);
  • Adopt reliable and standardized metrics to guide strategic decisions (52%).

Expectation for structural public policies

In addition to private sector actions, the study highlights expectations regarding the role of the State in accelerating the sustainability agenda. Among the main measures highlighted are issues such as the expansion of tax incentives and credit lines for sustainable companies and the establishment of clear rules, defined goals and effective monitoring.
