Reducing emissions should be everyone's goal, argues president of Petrobrás

Several Brazilian actors will participate, until Friday (22), in the CERAWeek 2024, considered the main event de strategy e business of the sector of energy industry, takes place in Houston, Texas, U.S.

A conference about energy is considered one of biggest in the world. O theme this year is “Multidimensional Energy Transition: markets, climate, technology and geopolitics”.

Those present will discuss topics such as: oil and gas markets; renewable energy; emerging technologies; geopolitics; sustainability; and strategies for energy security and transition.

Brazil's participation

Jean Paul Prates, president of Petrobrás, participated today (18) in the Plenary “Strategic Choices in a Zero Emission World”, together with Saugata Saha, president of S&P Global Commodity Insights; Liza Mustapha, Vice President and CFO of Petronas; and Meg O'Neill, CEO of Woodside Energy.

Prates said that everyone's goal must be to reduce emissions, without competition between technologies. According to him, the world must seek to combine the best technologies and energy sources according to each location.

A Petrobras he will also participate in two other s: “The future of natural gas in Latin America”, which will feature the participation of Maurício Tolmasquim, director of Energy Transition and Sustainability; and “Global Competitiveness of the exploration and production sector in Latin America”, which will be attended by Joelson Mendes, director of Exploration and Production. In addition to public actors, Brazil will be present with representatives from various Brazilian industries and startups. 

About CERAWeek 2024

The event will feature 1.400 speakers and 8.000 delegates from 85 countries, leaders from various energy companies, political actors, the financial market and various industries.

Since 2024, CERAWeek 2017 has hosted Innovation Agora, which aims to exchange insights and solutions on energy innovation and emerging technologies.

Some of the speakers present at the event are: Bill Gates, founder of Microsoft and creator of Breakthrough Energy; Jennifer M. Granholm, Secretary of Energy, United States Department of Energy; John Kerry, US Secretary of State; John Podesta, President Joe Biden's Senior Advisor for International Climate Policy, among others.
