New energy generation and storage systems were installed in the OSID (Obras Sociais Irmã Dulce). The new plant has a generation capacity of 850 kWp and an integrated system that can store 1.800 kWh per day.
The equipment was installed in the Saint Anthony Hospital, in Salvador (BA). The plant will supply approximately 15% of the hospital's total consumption and the storage system will meet 70% of demand during peak hours (18pm to 21pm), reducing the energy bill.
With the new facilities, the institution will have an estimated saving of 1.050 MWh per year, in addition to a reduction of 600 kW in demand during peak hours, that is, annual savings of R$ 1,4 million in expenses.
The amount saved by the Irmã Dulce Social Works will be redirected to other initiatives of the institution, which welcomes more than three million people per year in Bahia. In addition to 5,6 million outpatient procedures annually, 2 million of which are in the Hospital Saint Anthony.
The installation was carried out by Neoenergia Coelba by the Energy Efficiency Program, regulated by ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency) in an investment of approximately R$ 7 million. The installed generation system operates in the zero grid model.
According to Thiago Guth, CEO of Neoenergia Coelba, the delivery of the solar plant and energy storage system represents an important milestone in the commitment made in 2023 with the Irmã Dulce Social Works.
“This project materializes our efforts to bring innovation and sustainability to an institution that carries out essential work for the people of Bahia. We are promoting energy efficiency and, at the same time, enabling the resources saved to be directed to expanding services for thousands of people,” he said.
“The new solar plant and energy storage system that we inaugurated today at Hospital Santo Antônio, the heart of OSID, reflect this partnership’s commitment to environmental and social sustainability,” commented Maria Rita Pontes, superintendent of Obras Sociais Irmã Dulce.
In addition to contributing to environmental protection, Maria highlighted that this initiative will enable the Irmã Dulce Social Works, through the reduction in electricity costs, to apply the savings to maintaining services provided to the population, especially those most in need.
